The group quickly decided that they had to contact a wildlife veterinarian — someone who could assess the situation professionally. They scrambled to get a signal and placed the call.
After a tense exchange, the worker on the phone turned to the rest of the crew, his face pale. “The vet thinks… the snake might be pregnant,” he announced. “She says it could be preparing to lay its eggs right here — in the middle of the road.”
The workers exchanged stunned glances. Was that even possible? And then the vet gave them a daunting task…
To verify whether the snake was pregnant, the workers would have to determine exactly where the bulge was located on its body. That meant moving the massive anaconda — just enough to check.
Fear rippled through the crew. Most were hesitant. The idea of physically moving such a huge, unpredictable animal was terrifying. What if it struck? What if they made things worse?
Then one man stepped forward. Calm, determined, and brave, he volunteered to take the risk to keep his coworkers safe. Two more stepped up beside him.
Together, they came up with a plan to gently stretch the snake by pulling its tail — just enough to identify where the bulge was. They didn’t know it yet, but luck was on their side.

Hearts pounding, hands shaking, they grabbed hold of the snake’s tail and began to carefully stretch it out. Several other workers, encouraged by their courage, stepped in to assist. Everyone held their breath.
To their immense relief, the snake didn’t resist. It allowed itself to be stretched, its massive body moving slowly and heavily like a sluggish wave. It became clearer with each moment that something was terribly wrong.
